Door Upgrades – Residential

Door Upgrades – Residential

Upgrading the entrance doors of flats and communal doors to comply with the FD30 standard is an essential safety measure that ensures the protection of the building and its occupants. The FD30 standard requires doors to withstand fire for at least 30 minutes, which is crucial in providing enough time for evacuation in case of a fire emergency.

The upgrade process involves replacing the existing doors with FD30 certified ones, which are made of materials that are fire-resistant and have been rigorously tested to meet the required standards. The new doors are also fitted with smoke seals and intumescent strips that expand when exposed to heat to prevent the spread of fire and smoke.

Summary of Completed Work:

Our team has completed the following tasks to ensure fire safety compliance:

  • Aligned the door to allow for a 5mm gap around the door lead
  • Installed intumescent fire and smoke seals on the door leaf
  • Wrapped all locks with intumescent lock paper
  • Installed LBL letter box lining in letterbox openings and SM/S smoke flaps on both sides of the door
  • Installed drop-down deals on any doors with a gap of less than 10mm at the bottom of the door
  • Installed a self-closing device on each door
  • Fixed hinge protectors behind hinges where required
  • Installed escutcheon plates on both sides of the door

Additionally, we prepared both sides of the door by filling with intumescent wood filler, sanding to ensure a smooth surface, and applying one coat of HWAP/Primer at 12m2 per litre, two coats of HW01 at 8m2 per litre per coat, and three coats of HW EXCELL green topcoat at 12m2 per litre per coat. All work was carried out in compliance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
